Engage in your enviroment

When you are given the opportunity for growth, take it! Pay attention, engage in the conversations, and think about what you’ve learned, and how you can contribute to the experience so as to enrich the environment for all involved.

After each of our training sessions with dynamic teams inside and outside of the United States I spend quite a bit of quiet time either in my hotel room or on my flight home thinking about the overall training experience. After a recent class at a luxury resort in Santa Monica, California, I truly could not put my finger on what made it so amazing and rewarding for us as well as all of the attendees. Like all other classes we were welcomed with a true feeling of “we’re glad you’re here” and high levels of energy and enthusiasm. But this particular group was a little different. On the afternoon of the first day we stopped for our afternoon break, and no one could believe it was already 3PM…I certainly could not. When we concluded on the last day, we heard comments like “it can’t be over” and “ I have never been in a training class  that I did not want it to end,” and finally “this will become a part of not only my professional life but my personal life as well…thanks for giving me the focus I needed.”

It finally hit me that the group was totally ENGAGED. They were ENGAGED from the moment we started through the moment the closing comments were delivered. In sales it is your ENGAGEMENT with your client that will set you apart from your competition and don’t we all want to place a genuine stake in the ground with our clients?

ENGAGEMENT is accomplished with an earnest sense of care, a laser focus on the communication delivered by both parties and finally a deep understanding of what you both want to gain from the experience.
